Illamasqua Lecture/Workshop.

Lecture and Workshop 2014

With Illamasqua being a very good partner to our university and the Make up and Hair design course, we regularly have workshops/lectures with them.
During our first lecture we were told all about the brand Illamasqua.
Illamasqua was founded in November 2008 By Julian Kynaston who had previously worked for well known hair tool brand GHD. Illamasqua is a independent British make up brand with that being said, they are known internationally.

Illamasqua have strong views on animal testing, their brushes (made entirely out of synthetic hair) and products are cruelty free and they do not test on animals.

[Guest speaker Spob who is head of Professional Development at Illamasqua.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening and learning from Spob with her vast amount of industry knowledge she really gave us some critical information. She also told us to be unique, to not be afraid of experimenting and most importantly be yourself and have fun.

Workshop-
During our lecture there was also another employee from Illamasqua doing a live demo.

Induction Week! First day of Southampton Solent University.

Second Day of Solent                                     The Mask Project

The Mask Project. Creating an embodiment of who you want to be, based on the ideas from your summer project. On my second day at Solent we made masks out of brown paper bags, tissue paper, card, pens and all things arty!

As she was a photography student she loved the idea of having graffiti in the back
ground and it worked well! ]

Making these masks allowed us students to create something from scratch, based on ourselves, giving us the chance to experiment, be silly and play with different colors and textures.
We could be completely original.

This task also gave us a chance to mingle with some of the other students who will be in our group for the next year.

[Here is a short, flipgram video of a few more images I have from today's task. Video created by myself with images i have taken]

My first task as a make up student studying at Solent was to interact with my new peers and learn about them! In groups, we spent around 2 minutes presenting our summer projects i posted about in my last blog 'If i could.. i would'. We had to ask each other numerous questions such as.. what inspired you? who or what is your inspiration? how do you research? do you like the final outcome of your mood boards? and finally, tell us one interesting fact about yourself.

New Chapter and My Summer Project

           New Chapter..

On the 17th September 2014 I started a new chapter in my life, I left home in Birmingham and moved to Southampton. I am now a University student studying BA (Hons) Make Up and Hair Design at Solent University. For the short amount of time I have been here I am surprised at how much I have already learnt about myself and about Hair and Make up. The first week of University was so crazy, I didn't have time to take everything in. Here I have documented everything I have done prior to leaving for university and during my first week. Enjoy!

Me, Myself & I

As a huge make up lover with a passion for fashion I am currently focusing my future career path within the fashion industry. I was inspired to do this from being a huge fan of Fashion Week and the most beautiful magazine in the world, Vogue. I dream of one day being able to work with some of the industries top professionals and influential people such as the photographers, designers and models who all contribute to Vogue magazine. I would also at some point in my career like to experience the TV, Film and bridal side of the industry to expand my skills. Once i have gained exceptional skills and knowledge i would love to teach other aspiring artists my craft and inspire them like my tutors have and still are doing. I have always had a soft spot for cosmetic products inspiring me to one day have my own line of cosmetics or help develop products for another company, testing out different formulas, textures and colors fascinate me.
During my course I get a fantastic opportunity to expand my writing abilities which i hope allows me to freelance in beauty journalism for magazines, guest blogs and my own blog. Finally, my one dream i have in life besides the make up industry and my career is to travel the world, to experience different cultures, learn different cultures and see how beautiful the world is for myself .

'If I could.. I would..'

[Photo of my written design brief for the 2014 summer project photo taken by myself ]

Our summer project was to create a mood board to visualize who and where you would like to be in 5 years' time. What amazing job do you dream of doing? what type of person would you like to be? what would you like to look like? who do you want to work with? You can be as imaginative as you like, there are no boundaries- no glass ceiling! This is a great chance to show your own unique style, thoughts and dreams.

Knowing I had to create a mood board instantly excited me, creating something that visually shows my inspiration, style and mood through pictures rather than text is fantastic and a great way to show off my thoughts. Using the internet, magazines and product catalogue' I started cutting and sticking straight away.

This collection of images found from Magazines inspire me because its fashion
& Kim K! Some slate her, some rate her. I'm mostly fascinated by her big behind but also how her make up changes so regularly and some how she suits nearly every look, especially heavy contouring!]

Here are a few images and text showing my dreams, people I would love to work
with and shows I would like to be apart of,]
